Repatriating U.S. citizens from Paraguay
In March 2020 at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, a travel agent working on behalf of an international U.S. service organisation asked ACS to arrange the latest in a series of charters we had helped them with to repatriate U.S. citizens from Paraguay.
With new travel restrictions constantly coming into effect and Paraguay’s airspace rumoured to be closing within 24 hours, it was a race against time to get the 100 passengers home in time.
Our Solution
Route: Asunción > Miami
Aircraft: Boeing 767-200
Within a very tight timeframe, we needed to position an aircraft at Silvio Pettirossi International Airport, ensure the crew could fulfil the required rest period and depart Paraguay before the country’s airspace closed. Our experienced team sourced a Boeing 767-200 that could operate the route directly, meaning we didn’t need to secure additional permits for a fuel stop.
We then worked closely with our contacts at the airport and U.S. embassy to ensure that all permits were approved in time and secure permission for the crew to rest overnight before operating the flight the next morning. Some of the passengers were travelling with pets, so we liaised with the airline to close off an area of the aircraft so that the animals could travel onboard.
The Finer Details
24/7 Operation: We were available around the clock to complete contracting and airline negotiations, which often took place very late at night or before the crack of dawn.
Personalised Service: Our experienced team remained in constant contact with the worried passengers prior to departure, reassuring them that we would fly them home before restrictions tightened further.
Unrivalled Contacts: Thanks to our relationship with the airline, they agreed to start working on the charter before the banks opened to process payment, which was critical to the aircraft departing Paraguay on time.
