CITY GUIDE KANGAROO ISLAND

Private jet charter and flights to Kangaroo Island

As its name suggests, Australia’s most iconic wildlife species is one of the main attractions of this incredible island off the coast of South Australia. With a human-to-kangaroo ratio of about one to 13, this is one of the best places to see the national animal. However, with its rolling farm-scattered landscapes, large lagoons and glorious stretches of white-sand beaches there’s more to the island than just its marsupials. To experience it for yourself, get a fast quote from Air Charter Service to charter a private jet to Kangaroo Island, Australia.

Located eight miles off the coast of Southern Australia, Kangaroo Island is a haven for native Australian species. Although it’s become one of the state’s must-visit destinations, it still retains an off-the-beaten-track vibe – perhaps thanks to its huge size (at 1,700 square miles, it’s roughly the size of Connecticut) and a population of under 5,000 people.

Those arriving by ferry – which is just an eight-mile, 45-minute journey from Cape Jervis – Penneshaw will be their introduction to the island. Located on the north coast of the Dudley Peninsula, this small gateway town overlooks the Backstairs Passage back towards the mainland and boasts a number of attractions such as the Maritime and Folk Museum. Travel west from Penneshaw and you’ll soon reach a string of beaches including Baudin Beach, which is overlooked by a small village, and the beautiful Brown Beach which is backed by rolling sand dunes.

The village of American River sits on a protected harbour at the entrance to the Pelican Cove, a vast, protected wetland region that’s home to a number of fish and bird species such as the Australian pelican. South Australia’s oldest town, nearby Kingscote, is the island’s commercial hub and acts as a great jumping-off point for many of the north coast’s natural highlights. At Emu Bay’s two-mile-long beach, glorious white sand is hemmed by the clear waters of the Southern Ocean. Although it’s relatively close to Kingscote, it’s rarely crowded. Continue west and you’ll reach Stokes Bay with its rock-enclosed pool and the paradisiacal Snelling Beach, a real gem in the crown of this less-frequented region.

Covering much of the island’s western end is Flinders Chase National Park. Its 84,000 wild and rugged acres of scrub, rubber tree forests and striking coastline are interconnected by a network of hiking trails. The area is still steadily recovering following 2007’s bushfires, but there are endless opportunities to spot wildlife including kangaroos, the elusive platypus, wallabies, echidnas and koalas. It’s not all about the fauna, either – the park’s natural landscapes are pretty special too. Admirals Arch is a natural rock bridge on Cape du Couedic where stalactites hang from the ceiling and a colony of New Zealand fur seals live at the base. Along the coast at the Remarkable Rocks, arrive before the sun rises or sets to watch as the changing light catches these uniquely-eroded granite boulders.

Aside from the national park attractions, the beautiful south coast has some real standout destinations – in particular, Vivonne Bay and Seal Bay. The exquisite stretch of beach along the former is considered one of the best in the country and that’s really saying something in Australia. A few miles east, Seal Bay is widely known for its large colony of Australian sea lions, which bask on the wide sandy beach of the local conservation park. You can reach the beach by following a winding boardwalk through beautiful sand dunes.

As with many of Australia’s wilderness areas, Kangaroo Island is home to a handful of accommodation options, including coastal luxury lodges, private rentals, bed-and-breakfasts and seaside inns.

Kingscote Airport is the island’s sole airfield and can be reached in 30 minutes from Adelaide Airport. Simply contact one of our team and we can arrange everything you need to charter a private jet to Kangaroo Island.
